Think globally, act locally: On the optimal seeding for nonsubmodular influence maximization

چکیده

We study the $r$-complex contagion influence maximization problem. In problem, one chooses a fixed number of initial seeds in social network to maximize spread their influence. model, each uninfected vertex becomes infected if it has at least $r$ neighbors. this paper, we focus on random graph model named stochastic hierarchical blockmodel, which is special case well-studied blockmodel. When not exceptionally sparse, particular, when edge appears with probability $\omega(n^{-(1+1/r)})$, under certain mild assumptions, prove that optimal seeding strategy put all single community. This matches intuition nonsubmodular cascade placing near other creates synergy. However, sharply contrasts for submodular models (e.g., independent and linear threshold model) nearby tend erode others' effects. Our key technique novel time-asynchronized coupling four processes. Finally, show observation yields polynomial time dynamic programming algorithm outputs either $\omega(n^{-(1+1/r)})$ or $o(n^{-2})$.

Think globally, act locally

In a large cyber-physical system, even if individual system elements interact with one another only locally, effects of local decisions quickly spread across the system and combine to yield global consequences. In order to reason about such a system without impractical amounts of communication and computation, we must summarize the system’s global state, and base individual decisions at least p...

This issue of Asia Pacific Allergy (Asia Pac Allergy) will be released at the beginning of its third year of circulation. Asia Pac Allergy is just two years old yet very active and on the way to developing into a leading publication in allergic disease research. We thank all the authors and readers for their efforts and contributions. Our current issue features two valuable reviews on the topic...

Protein folding: Think globally, (inter)act locally

Protein folding appears to be almost too complex for a complete description or for accurate structure prediction from sequence data. A simple way of analysing local interactions, however, bears promise of linking theory with experiment and cutting through some of the complexities.

Protein folding: Think globally, (inter)act locally

It has recently been shown that a class of secreted proteins — the Dickkopfs — are released by the Spemann organizer of Xenopus and are potent antagonists of Wnt signaling [1]. Although it has been reported that the Dickkopf (Dkk) proteins contain two cysteine-rich domains, no direct functional or structural conclusions have been drawn from their sequences. The role of Wnt signaling in animal d...

Think Globally Act Locally: The Case for Symphysiotomy

When expatriate doctors from developed countries working in sub-Saharan Africa suggest to the local doctors and midwives that symphysiotomies should sometimes be done, they are silenced neither with quotations from the medical literature nor with tales of patients seen, but with: "If symphysiotomies are such good operations why don't you perform them at home?" Here is why.
